Political Debates on Sustainable Development – Elections 2012 in Georgia (2012)

In July-December, 2012, Heinrich Boell Foundation South Caucasus Regional Office supported a project “Political Debates on Sustainable Development – Elections 2012 in Georgia” initiated and implemented by the Association Green Alternative.

The goal of the project was to ensure debates on sustainable development and environmental protection during Parliamentary elections 2012 and active engagement of the voters into questioning development and environmental issues as they were reflected in political parties’ programs. Thus the long term goal of the project was to ensure integration of environmental and sustainable development issues in leading political parties’ platforms and agendas.

Specific activities of the project included: interviewing the political party leaders; training for Journalists; assessment of Georgian political parties Green profiles; round table discussions with participation of civil society activists and representatives of political parties; publication of the report “Ask Your Candidate what does She/He think about Environmental Protection?”; working session for Environment and Natural Resources Protection Committee of the Parliament and Political Parties after elections; updating the www.greeningfuture.org website and keeping voters informed through social media tools; publication of articles on environmental aspects in Georgian political parties’ platforms in various media outlets.
