Project "Green Political Analysis of Industrial Pollution in Kvemo Kartli Region" implemented by Green Policy Public Platform aimed to understand and research industrial pollution and resource management problems in Lower Kartli region from Green political perspective, to provide political space with new scientific information for its political activation.
The project was divided into two phases:
The first phase involved research of the scientific literature and determination of sampling areas. 42 sampling areas were identified for soil and 16 for water sampling, covering 42 villages of lower Kartli region, and two main rivers Mashavera and Poladauri, together with their estuaries surrounding the mine. Sampling procedure for each element (water and soil) was held in June and in September for soil and in June, September and November for water. Final results of the research were interpreted and studied scientific staff of the project.
The second phase of the project was aimed at dissemination of information in the media, social networks, scientific circles and civil society by organizing round-table meetings with participation of Georgian scientists working on or interested in soil and water pollution problems; sharing the results to wider public through a press-conference; involving interested parties in the public discussion through sharing the research paper and organizing public debate session; sending the research findings and official statement to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection and request adequate reaction to the findings.
