In a post-industrial era where cities across the globe have taken an entrepreneurial approach to urban territorial management, mega-events have become a prominent part of urban policies (Harvey, 1989). The Olympics and the Formula 1 World Championship are examples of internationally-significant mega-events, typically with an abundance of visitors and global media audiences of billions.
(closed project) In 2017 the Institute of Georgian Architects in cooperation with hbs South Caucasus implemented a project "Designing the Concept of Tbilisi`s historic district`s development based on public participation principle through the example of 'parallel development'".
(ongoing project) In 2016, the non-governmental organization Initiative for a Public Space, in cooperation with the South Caucasus Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation will implement the project: Legal Advocacy for Public Spaces.
On June 11-28 2015, Berlin hosted Make City festival which focused on the issues of urban commons, sustainable urban planning and participatory urban development and invited hundreds of guest from around the world to bring stories and experiences of the cities they come from.
