Zaur Gasimov

Dr. Gasimov studied International Relations, International Law and History in Baku, Berlin, and Eichstätt. From 2002 to 2003, he worked in the area of press and public relations at the German Embassy in Baku. In 2009, Dr. Gasimov completed his doctorate in History at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt with a scholarship from the DAAD and the Open Society Institute (George Soros Foundation). His dissertation on the misuse of history by the military in communist Poland and the USSR was distinguished with a special prize by the Polish Foreign Ministry.

From 2009 to 2013, he worked as a research fellow in the Department of Universal History at the Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) in Mainz. Since September 2013, Dr. Gasimov has been a research fellow at the Orient-Institut Istanbul, where he has been conducting research on the transfer of ideas between Russia, Europe, and Turkey during the 20th and 21st century.
