On May 27th, 2016, Auditorium #115 (I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University) hosted Attila Melegh's Public Lecture The Defense of Internal and External Borders: Political Discourses and Key Elements of the Refugee Crisis.
“How can we avoid the threats that we face in the next two weeks? How can we protect democracy in our country?” As these questions were raised, neither the author, nor the speakers of the discussion and the public could imagine that this question'd become critical with the background of pre-election events.
The South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation hosts public debates since 2004. The geography of public debates expanded from Tbilisi to Kutaisi and Batumi in 2013. Once in a month these three cities provide spaces for deliberation on acute political, social and cultural problems faced by contemporary Georgia. The debates aim to motivate public discussions about the establishment of a constitutional state and civil society and the promotion of the public debates culture.
