Memory Politics

In the article, the author examines current methods and practices of "restoring" women in history, highlighting a socially just interpretation of the past and proposing a feminist alternative for future historiography.

The author of this article aims to discuss how the role of the museum has been transforming  from the storage of national treasury to an agora, a space for introspective learning, public debate, and inter-community solidarity. The author argues for the significance of such a transition for young people and society at large.

The Heinrich Boell Foundation Tbilisi Office – South Caucasus Region, together with Ilia State University and the Soviet Past Research Laboratory (SOVLAB), organizes its annual South Caucasus Regional Conference on Memory Politics to discuss history research and teaching in the South Caucasus (SC) – traditions and innovations in history teaching methods, the main historical narratives conveyed through history education, and current debates on the role of history in forming young people’s identity.

Georgia’s Youth and History: Experience, Attitudes and Values, was a study conducted in 2021 by WeResearch with the support of the Heinrich Boell Foundation Tbilisi Office – South Caucasus region. It aimed to examine young people’s attitudes towards Georgian history and how the subject is taught. The research focused on what they know about history, how they understand it, their interests in the subject, the primary sources of information they use, and how they assess the experience of learning history.

Heinrich Boell Foundation Tbilisi Office, together with Ilia State University and Soviet Past Research Laboratory (SOVLAB) organized the South Caucasus Regional Conference on Memory Politics.
