Biography: 

Siran Hovhannisyan is an Outreach and PR Coordinator at the Center for Gen­der and Leadership Studies (CGLS) of Yerevan State University (YSU). She also teaches at the YSU Faculty of Sociology. As part of her duty in CGLS she is assist­ing in the management and recruitment of the students for Master’s Degree pro­gram in Women, Leadership and Development, which is the first academic Gender and Women’s Studies in Armenian Higher Education System. Before graduation from the Department of Social Work she was actively involved in volunteer activity at the Women’s Resource Center NGO in Armenia (WRCA), which has resulted in her involvement as a PR person in the fall and spring lecture series on gender and feminist issues in Armenia, supported by the Heinrich Boll Foundation (Tbilisi). Since June 2016, she has been doing training on Gender-Responsive Budgeting and Analysis for the WRCA. Siran is interested in feminist theory, gender theory and gender-related issues in Armenia, gender discourse in Armenian media, sex-se­lective abortions, and the very specific correlations of social work and feminist practices. She has co-authored an article entitled “The Sex-Selective Abortions
