The project CAUCADOC was implemented in cooperation with Czech organization People in Need. It was part of a wider program funded by EC to support documentary filmmaking and running in the whole South Caucasus in 2012-14. HBF SC cooperated with project during 2013 by co-funding part of the festival.
The aim of the project was to support open dialogue on critical social issues (conflict transformation, human rights, non-discrimination, media freedom) in remote regions of South Caucasus by organizing independent and sustainable local documentary film festivals, that combine film screenings with public debates.
In the frameworks of the project 15 festivals took place in 15 regions of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, disputed territory of Abkhazia during 2013. Documentary films and following debates provided sensitive tools to question stereotypes, public debates give to people chance to discuss openly crucial issues directly related to their community, inter-ethnic conflict being one of the most important ones. This way the project contributed to tolerance and confidence building in the South Caucasus.
