Heinrich Boell 100

For the purpose of celebrating 100th anniversary of Heinrich Boell, the South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation has organized different events. Three exhibitions were set in Kutaisi, Tbilisi and Yerevan regarding the life and work of Heinrich Boell. Also, there was a film screening “The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum” at the National Parliament Library of Georgia, based on one of the novels of Heinrich Boell.

To mark the 100th anniversary of Heinrich Boell, the South Caucasus Regional Office prepared publication Heinrich Boell 100: Writer and Citizen, which includes his political essays and more extensive text Frankfurt Lectures. Several articles written by Georgian Germanists and literature specialists – Levan Berdzenishvili, Levan Tsagareli, Manana Paitchadze and Neli Amashukeli are also part of the publication. Their articles touch upon the work of Heinrich Boell, his two visits in Georgia (1966 and 1972 years) and generally, his importance for Georgian culture. The publication contains the bibliography of writer's literary and scientific literature.

It is also important that the South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation together with the “Writers’ House” organized literature contest for young people aged 15-25. High school students were asked to submit essays and university students had the opportunity to send translations of Heinrich Boell’s short stories. Five students were announced as the winners of the literature contest and were awarded special prizes at the official reception at the “Writers House” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Heinrich Boell.
