Tamara Zurabishvili was born in Telavi, Eastern Georgia. After graduating form high school, she continued her studies at Moscow Lomonosov State University’s Department of International Journalism, and later did her M.A. in Sociology at Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (MSSES). At the same time she worked at Russian Center for Public Opinion and Market Research (VCIOM), which recently changed its name to Levada Center.
Tamara came back to Georgia in 1999 and started to teach at Telavi State University sociology classes. She was a Civic Education Project (CEP) Local Faculty Fellow at Telavi University in 2000-2001, 2002-2003. In 2001 in terms of the Regional Scholar Exchange program (ACCELS), Tamara was a visiting scholar at University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
In 2005 Tamara got her MA in Media Studies from the New School University, NY.
Her research interests are fairly broad including stereotyping in Mass Media, nationalism and national identity, migration.
In terms of the Heinrich-Böll Scholarship Programme, Tamara will be conducting research of Georgian labor migration with a special emphasis on migration networks operating between actual Georgian migrants and their families back in Georgia.
