On 19 July 2011, a public discussion in Poti, organized by the Heinrich Boell Foundation, was devoted to the issue of results of the certification examinations.
The following speakers gave presentations:
Kesaria Kalandarishvili – Historian;
Ketino Kajaia – Head, Quality Management Service, Tbilisi State University;
Tamila Tsotsoria – Doctor of Philology.
The debate was moderated by Kristine Kajaia.
Teachers, students of public schools, as well as recent graduates and their parents, representatives of non-governmental organizations and local media participated in the discussion.
All speakers of the discussion unequivocally noted that the level of education among Georgian youth is very low. As a result, a significant part might not be able to pass university entrance examinations.
Opinion in the audience was divided into two: most of them considered certification examinations as necessary, but not for this year’s graduates, as they have not studied all school subjects accordingly.
The discussion lasted for two hours. At the end, speakers underlined necessity to continue trainings for school teachers.
