Bahruz Mammadov was born in 1978 in Lenkoran, Azerbaijan. From 1995 to 1999, Bahruz studied at Baku’s State University and received a B.A. in History. Afterwards, he enrolled in a Masters program at the University of Israel, where he specialized in Religious Theory and Linguistics. In 2003, Bahruz successfully defended his Magistrate dissertation on Ethno-historical pecularities of Jewish mountain communities in Azerbaijan.

Currently, Bahruz works on the committee for international relief (IRC). He also serves as a coordinator for the business services program, ABAD. Additionally, he also teaches in the Philology department of Western languages at Baku’s Eastern University. Bahruz’s field of interests encompasses Comparative Religious Theory and Linguistics as well as history and ethnography of the Caucasus and Near East.
The title of Bahruz’s HBS research project is “Blank Spot in Azeri History: Thaw in the First Half of the 20th Century in the Context of Oral History.” This project mainly deals with the period from 1918 to 1939. It investigates the oral transfer of information from surviving Talshi (Southern Azeris) as a source of history not found in written history.
