Philipp Zimmermann obtained his bachelor degree in Urban Studies at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Currently he pursues his master degree in East European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin. His research interest is situated at the intersection of politics and space, examining how localized socio-spatial developments interact with wider political transformations in Eastern Europe. His research combines methodologies of urban geography, ethnography and sociology. Having lived in Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Georgia, Philipp’s specialization is on the post-communist countries in the Black Sea region. From April until June 2022 he was an intern at the South Caucasus Regional Office of the Heinrich Boell Foundation.
