Smbat Hakobyan

Smbat was born in 3 June, 1988 in Yerevan. In 2004 he finished School #22 and in September of the same year he entered the Yerevan State University, Faculty of Journalism which he finished in 2008. Since 2010 he’s been working in the “Folk art center named after Hovhannes Sharambeyan” as ethnographer-researcher. During the period from 2010 till 2012 he obtained Master Degree of Ethnographer at the Yerevan State University, Faculty of History. Starting from January 2013 he is an undergraduate student at Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of RA. The topic of my dissertation is “Funeral ritual in contemporary Yerevan: Ethnography and public discourse.”

Smbat’s basic interests are mythology, rites, religios practices, holidays, and also some social issues: ethnicity and nationalism, gender relations, etc. He also studies theories in social sciences and humanities.
