The absence of conflict transformation and sustainable peacebuilding policies has severely affected the rights and social situation of communities living in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as those residing in the proximity of the Administrative Boundary Lines (ABL).  While political actors remain polarized and peace-related issues are not among the top priorities, the state of human rights and social conditions in and nearby the conflict regions remain serious and are deteriorating over time in the absence of positive actions. In addition, the de facto administrations are taking steps to harmonize their legislation with that of the Russian Federation and to further alienate the EU and Georgia, which perpetuates the status quo and has a negative impact on the peace-building processes.

Within the framework of our cooperation project, the Social Justice Center (SCJ) contributes to strengthened human rights perspectives in the peace policy of Georgia and improved human rights/social conditions of people living in Gali and Akhalgori through advocacy for a consolidated political agenda and action and engagement of international actors. This goal is achieved on the one hand by initiating discussions about the needs and challenges of Gali and Akhalgori residents; on the other hand, by providing advice to political and international actors on peace policy and related human rights issues. During the project implementation, multimedia products as well as articles/policy papers are prepared. In addition, the SCJ also approaches the relevant ministries, political parties, and international actors for increased engagement.
