Social work is one of the professions that is mostly represented by women workers. The profession has had a feminist character since its formation and has always been led by women, who have advocated for the equality of various rights for women and other minority groups. However, specifically because of its feminist character, the profession has become marginalized for women. The voices, concerns, and issues of social workers are not heard by the relevant decision-makers. Social workers possess first-hand unique knowledge of various highly vulnerable groups in the country and contribute significantly to the sustainability of a functioning society. However, their work is often unrecognized and they suffer various forms of discrimination at work, and their important role in society is neglected.

The project 'Strengthening Feminism in the Social Work Profession' aims to promote gender equality through a feminist rethinking of social work. The Social Workers' Union plans to strengthen the feminist practice of social workers and expand their network to fight domestic violence and exploitation. This is especially important in regions with high levels of violence against women and domestic violence. According to the National Survey on Violence against Women in Georgia (2017) conducted by UN Women, the regions of Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli are particularly affected. It is important to raise the awareness of social workers and help them develop tools for self-help. In the project, selected social workers are given training in feminist education to incorporate it into their work and to disseminate knowledge to other social workers. In addition, the organization’s website and Facebook page offer materials for self-education and empowerment, with the contribution of active social workers.
