Heinrich Boell Foundation Yerevan Office-South Caucasus Region in cooperation with “Ecological Right” NGO implements a project titled “Raising environmental and economic inconsistencies of the mining strategy of Armenia based on international best practice”․
The goal of the project is to identify the gaps and shortcomings of the Armenian Mining Strategy in the areas of economy and investment, social and environmental issues, and public participation, in line with best international standards. In addition, the project aims to advocate for the improvement of the Strategy in the above-mentioned directions, after conducting its alternative expert assessment.
The Mining Strategy plays a crucial role in regulating the sector. With the financial support of the World Bank, the Government of the Republic of Armenia developed the Mining Strategy, which is a comprehensive document aimed at clarifying the extractive policy of the country and regulating the existing problems. It is noteworthy that last year the “Ecological Right” NGO carried out another project with the Heinrich Boell Foundation Yerevan Office-South Caucasus Region. The activities involved analyzing the draft strategy and making respective recommendations.
