Sophie Zviadadze is a sociologist and scholar in religious studies. She as an Associate Professor of at Ilia State University. She is the chair of the Master Program in Religious Studies at the same university. Sophie Zviadadze obtained her Master’s Degree in Political Science, Sociology, and Religious Studies at the Westfalen Wilhelms University of Muenster (Germany). She received her Ph.D. degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Muenster in 2014. She examines the intersections of religion and politics, religion and collective memory, and its manifestation in different cultural and political settings. Her current research focuses on Islam and diverse Muslim communities in Georgia. She also studies the transformation of religiosity, social ties, and public spaces in small cities in Georgia.
