The article is based on Ketevan Lapachi’s doctoral research, which explores and analyses practices related to hair loss. To conceptualise these practices, the author provides an overview of literature focusing on the relationship between the body and the discourse, while also discussing new ways of seeing and understanding the human body.

The article discusses the peculiarities of capitalist development in Kutaisi, Georgia’s fourth largest city. It offers the author’s observations on the city’s uneven development, labour migration and tourism.

The article outlines the complexity and the multifaceted nature of the way development projects - and related local practices - unfolded in Upper Svaneti over the past few decades. Additionally, the author provides, based on the example of Svaneti, a theoretical overview for understanding how engagement with market forces affects the state and its sovereignty, as well as local practices. 

Discussing the example of Tbilisi, the author analyses some of the major challenges facing contemporary urban policy in Georgia, as well as the evolution of ideas and forms of protest that urban movements deploy to address them. 

The project seeks to establish the groundwork for a documentary that will make a significant contribution to the discourse surrounding women's sexuality in both historic Soviet and contemporary Georgia.

The Batumelebi project ‘Voices of Georgian Women in Labour Emigration’ aims to fill this gap.
